The film opened at number 1, scoring over $50 million its opening weekend according to many box office reports, but ticket sales then dropped drastically; Van Helsing's second weekend in theatres brought in only an estimated $20 million. Reviews for Van Helsing have been largely negative, although the film seems to be attracting a solid base of fans - fans who are loyal to the action/horror genre and can overlook the film's story gaps and acting flaws. |

The Roxburgh Rating: If there is a single stand-out performance in the film, it is Roxburgh's. Hugh Jackman is put to shame next to Roxburgh's Dracula, though their scenes together are a treat to any U.S. fan of Aussie actors. Roxburgh is perfect in Van Helsing if you, like me, tend to have a thing for the villain of a piece.
Ten points for wardrobe; twenty-five points for the masquerade scene; ten points for his gamut of facial expressions; fifty points for wicked sexiness. Subtotal: 95.
Bonus points given for hair that I have been trying to mimic since I saw the film: 50. Total: 145
