In My Own Words: Don't expect your predetermined vision of Sherlock Holmes to emerge on screen in this Masterpiece Theatre adaptation of Sir Arther Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles. This Holmes lacks most of the classic Sherlock Holmes trademarks, but instead focuses on his arrogance, brilliance, and one-track fanaticism for the case at hand.

The Roxburgh Rating: Sherlock Holmes has been portrayed on screen so many times that each actor needs to reinvent the character in order to make any impression on an audience, at all. Roxburgh's Holmes is an arrogant bastard but, more importantly, a deeply witty bastard.
Thirty points for making a Masterpiece Theatre production watchable for an American Gen-Xer; twenty points for the lack of a pipe and Deerstalker hat; twenty-five points for his execution of dry wit. Total: 75
